Guest Performers Dazzled
Los Angeles Opera principal artist Suzanna Guzmán introduced Stone Soupers to the magic of opera in a performance last fall.
Ms. Guzmán grew up in East Los Angeles, and is active in promoting arts education. As an opera singer, she is a principal artist with the Los Angeles Opera and has appeared around the world as a soloist.
Time magazine described Ms. Guzmán as a “fire-eating singing actress” for her portrayal of Carmen. Her work has won many honors and awards, including the first Plácido Domingo Award in 1997 and being named one of the Miller Company’s 1998 Twelve Outstanding Latinos in Music in America. Her voice can be heard on many CDs.
Stone Soupers also enjoyed a return visit by Jose-Luis Orozco, a nationally acclaimed singer, guitarist and recording artist, who delighted Cherrylee and Lampton students in El Monte and Norwalk. A bilingual educator who has recorded 12 volumes of Latin American children’s music and written two award-winning books leads his audience to spontaneous singing, clapping, foot-stomping dancing and shares the stage with intrepid volunteers.
